Nestled along the high street in Jinja you will find Zabuu Art Studio, Set up by a small collective of artists, the walls and alleyway alongside are abundantly adorned with inspiringly beautiful African artwork.

Our friend Pius introduced himself as I was admiring a pair of massive elephants painted on canvas and creatively detailed using a fork. His passion and obvious talent intrigued me, and I bought the elephants. This was in 2020.

In 2022 after staying in touch I knew I wanted to build a stronger connection and also commission a painting of my own from Pius. My challenge to Pius was to paint my image of the 37 children at the borehole that I photographed in 2018.

Together we have collaborated to bring some of his work to the UK and add it to our online store. This is now a reality with a few original paintings all the way from Zabuu Art Studio in Uganda for sale and posted from right here in Devon.

All of the art in our store is original and we only have 1 of each. The artwork will be updated following each visit to Uganda. The profit from the sale of each artwork is split 50/50 between the artist and Think People Think Story.

Pius presents the finished canvas of ‘The Borehole’. I left it completely to him, with just the photograph to work from I was really excited to see the final result.

After a few weeks and just before leaving town, I dropped in to pick it up and I was not disappointed.

Ross was part of our Think People Think Story Uganda Adventure in 2022, with a couple of creative eyes in his head he booked an African Art Experience with Pius, enjoying an afternoon of painting his very own elephant canvas.

Heres what he had to say about it…

ZABUU ART EXPERIENCES

Ross…

Our adventure to Uganda brought so many memories, exciting times, and positive vibes. Along my journey, I met someone called Pius whilst having a trip to Jinja.

As I'm interested in art myself, Pius's shop really attracted my eye with amazing, vibrant, colorful paintings in front of his shop which enticed me to have a deeper look.
Pius approached me with so much kindness and enthusiasm after seeing my interest and we started an in-depth conversation with our mutual passions. I was blown away by the skill and talent that Pius and his team had with all his paintings.

We came into a conversation about having a painting lesson with Pius himself. Very accommodating which made me feel very comfortable and he treated me like a friend from the start. Patient, understanding, and very easy to learn from. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

After completing our lesson and being able to keep my own painting he was able to give me an amazing deal on one of his lion paintings which I brought home to get framed.

We visited Pius’ shop in Jinja and it was an amazing experience. His shop is incredible, every space filled with beautiful artwork created by him and other artists creating a colourful unique space. Pius greeted us as we entered and you could feel the passion he had for his art talking to us about individual pieces and showing everything they had to offer. I couldn’t leave without buying a couple of paintings, perfect presents to take home for my family.
